As we know that Gmail is one of the most popular secure email providers in the world. Almost all of the email providers transfer information to us via HTTPS (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure) protocol.Gmail is most secure and powerful email provider. Even though sometimes Gmail address bar shows HTTPS with an exclamation mark!

Whenever you click the address bar status,

“Your connection to mail.google.com is encrypted with 128 bit encryption. However this page includes other resources which are not secure. These resources can be viewed by others while in transit, and can be modified by an attacker to change the look of this page”

Why Gmail shows like this? What is the reason behind this kind of issue?

Most of the people think that this is a security problem of their Gmail account, but actually this is not a critical problem.

Gmail HTTPS with an exclamation mark

In this article I will figure out the exact reason for this technology myth!

Why it is so?

Whenever you display images in a received mail with images in the mail body, your address bar shows https:// with exclamation mark.

Basically the reason is nothing but the images in the mail body are stored in some other servers and not in the Gmail server. That means you are displaying content outside of Gmail server within the Gmail.

Google is not responsible for this contents whatever it may be, thus they show https:// with an exclamation mark.

So don’t get worried about it, it’s no more….

Real Example

Now I’m gonna show the real life example.

The following image shows address bar while opening my Gmail. Here the identity is verified and my connection to mail.google.com is encrypted with 128 bit encryption.

Identity verified mail.google.com

Let me open one of my mails with images inside mail body.

Here you can’t see images instead only blank space.
